Subcision

Pores & Acne Scars

What is Subcision?

Subcision is a treatment for depressed scars caused by acne, chickenpox, or trauma. A specialized needle is inserted beneath the scar to release the fibrous bands that are pulling the skin downward.

Release of scar tethering:
The procedure physically breaks apart the collagen fibers that anchor the scar to the deeper tissue and create the sunken appearance.

Best suited for:
Subcision is particularly effective for broad, shallow rolling acne scars, chickenpox scars, and deeper depressed traumatic scars.

Benefits:
It can produce noticeable improvement in scars that are difficult to treat with laser alone, sometimes even after a single session. Results may be further enhanced when combined with collagen-stimulating injectables such as Sculptra or Juvelook.

When will you see results? Is there any downtime?

Early improvements (2–4 weeks): You may notice smoother skin texture and improved hydration, with less dryness from within.

Peak results (after 4–8 weeks): As collagen and elastin production increases, the appearance of acne scars becomes visibly reduced, while skin firmness and elasticity continue to improve

After subcision treatment, you may experience facial redness, dryness, and peeling for about three to four weeks. Because subcision involves a relatively long recovery period and can cause significant bruising, it is not recommended for everyone. We only suggest it for carefully selected patients with the appropriate type of scar. Applying a skin-repair cream and sunscreen regularly is also essential.

Dermia’s Laser Omakase is designed to address multiple concerns at the same time, including enlarged pores, acne scars, pigmentation, and facial redness.
Each session combines three different laser treatments, and the program consists of a total of 10 sessions.

At the doctor’s discretion, the treatment may also include additional procedures such as laser hair removal, regenerative injections, melasma injections, or anti-inflammatory injections, depending on the patient’s skin condition.
